One of the number one questions I get is “How can I get my blowout to last just one more day?” Well, long live your blowout! Read on below where I share my best hairstyle retention tips and tricks.

BEFORE BLOW DRYING

When your hair is damp, apply mousse that is special for your hair type before you start drying it. For example if you have fine hair, a thickening or volumizing mousse would be ideal to help ensure your volume lasts all day. I’m currently loving Kenra Professional’s Volume Mousse Extra.

WHILE BLOW DRYING

If you have fine, normal or straight hair, I recommend rough drying the hair to 100% before styling with a round brush or other heated tool. If you stretch out your hair a lot while drying it with a round brush, it has a harder time maintaining bounce or curl. If you have thick or curly hair, rough dry your hair to 60-80% before you start styling with a round brush.

Styling with the Hot Rollers LUXE

First of all, be sure your hair is 100% dry before you begin styling it the Volumizing Hot Rollers LUXE. As a rule of thumb, leave the rollers in your hair for a minimum of 10 minutes or until the indicator dot turns from white to black. Always apply rollers to the crown of the head and the sides first and remove them last, allowing these sections of hair to set the longest. That’s where you’ll get the most volume!

Styling with other hot tools

After your blow dry, make sure your hair is completely dry and completely cooled down before you begin styling with a curling iron or flat iron. This will help better lock in your curly or straight hairstyle. To maintain a tighter curl, wait for the hair to cool then use your fingers or use a wide tooth comb to lightly smooth out the style. For a more relaxed curl or wave, run a Paddle Brush or Vent Brush through the hair before it’s cooled for a polished finish.

Extending your style

At the end of the first day, I recommend either sleeping on a silk pillowcase or, if your hair is long enough, pulling it up into a loose high ponytail before going to sleep. On the second day, apply some dry shampoo or texture spray for extra volume and lift. I also love applying three rollers to the crown of your head to easily and quickly revive a blowout or other voluminous hairstyle.
